So no photos this time……….just a little update on us……..the Sloan Family!
5 Months ago, we welcomed our second child. A baby boy we named Kale. Ava (21 months at the time) was absolutely thrilled! And she is the best big sister ever! (I was super worried she would be jealous, as we completely spoiled her and spent all our energy with her all day every day!). She loves him, to this day, one of my favorite things is watching her laugh at him, especially now that he giggles!!!
When he was 2 weeks old, he decided to choke on me, my husband was away so it was just me and Ava with him. He couldn’t breathe and started to turn purple. I called 911 and an ambulance had to come. I have no idea how I stayed so completely calm. (I assume because Ava was there with me and I didn’t want her to panic). The only thing that gave me hope was that once in awhile, he would let out a bit of a cry, so I knew he had at least some air. I truly thought my baby boy was going to die right there in my arms while I waited for the ambulance. (That’s a whole other story that I won’t get into on here). Of course by the time they arrived, he was starting to breathe again but he has had a lot of trouble with phlegm (excuse my choice of words lol) as his labor was very fast and there was not enough time to clear out his airways. But he made it, and is our little angel.
Then, when he was 3 months old, we took a much needed family vacation to Puerto Vallarta Mexico, one of our favorite destinations. Both kids were fantastic on the flight and Ava loved the Mexican music and parties! It was such a great trip, and had a fantastic resort and each night, seen the most beautiful sunset on the ocean out our balcony or at the infinity pool at the hotel. (And of course I got some fantastic images!).
When we got home from Mexico, our little guy caught the cold both Ava and I got. He had RSV (I thought for sure it was Whooping cough!). This was super scary, it was the most awful thing to watch, and we had to give him a puffer numerous times each day to help open his airways. His cough sounded horrific! And I knew how painful it was, because I had just had it! RSV is very common among young children, but when a child under 6 months old gets it, it can be fatal. Not at all what a new mother wants to hear about her sweet newborn boy. I don’t wish this on any child. That being said, he was sick for almost a month but ended up being just fine in time for Santa to arrive! And what an awesome Christmas it was. I spent it with BOTH my parents, which is something I haven’t done in a very long time!
Please keep your newborns safe. I am absolutely crazy about germs. Get vaccinated. I can’t tell you enough. If you are having a newborn, work with newborns or even if you are another newborn photographer, please GET VACCINATED! (esp for whooping cough!). This is a tiny precious life you are responsible for! And if you are a newborn photographer, PLEASE take the time to learn safety in newborn posing! Meet with a specialist, call your local health authority and sit with a local professional that can help teach you about those tiny bones/muscles. Please do not attempt ANY shoot that you are unfamiliar with. It’s not worth it. Please be safe everyone and take care of those amazing blessings we were given!
Its been a year and a half since I started this photography journey. I am so blessed. I can’t say it enough! I have spent so much time with little precious miracles that have entered our world. I am so lucky. It is the absolute most amazing job I could ever do and is so completely fulfilling to me. I get to share in the miracle of pregnancy and child birth, how cool is that? Through this journey, I have met the most incredible photographers, prop makers and became part of a wonderful community of support and inspiration! I have met the most amazing new friends, that even feel like family. It has been such an incredible learning experience, I am still learning everyday. And lets just say, it’s a lot less stressful than my previous career!
Thank you for being here with me,
Bobbi
